Royal Terns everywhere!

Today was not a good day for the songbirds or raptors, but it sure was good for spotting Royal Terns! There were so many that they were covering the beach in places. It seems that a lot of them are starting to hunker down for the approaching hurricane (Earl) which is supposed to be about 100mi offshore tomorrow. Here are some of the highlights from my walk today:

Sanderlings (entering winter plumage)

Common Tern (immature)

Male Goldfinch on Thistle

Royal Tern (chick still begging parent for food!)

Love those Royal Terns with their orange beaks.
Hope that hurricane doesn't cause too much damage.
